Mwen La (I'm Here)

I arrived at the mission about noon yesterday with four other interns. The Port-au-Prince airport is slightly damaged yet very organized for it being Haiti, post-earthquake. The first day we spent around the campus and then did meals on heels, where we take meals to elderly shut-in's in the town. St. Louis is in the process of paving streets, a major improvement.

Today, we traveled to Bono and Ansefoleur. Bono is where the new miriam center (special needs home) is being built. Ansefoleur is known as the voodoo capital in Haiti. We went to the temple and sat in on their service and prayed for them. They wanted us to pay to go in but we would never pay to support that. I'm not sure if how most people feel about spiritual warfare, but it definitely exists in that city. Inside the temple, it's so dark and impossible to breath. It's heartbreaking to see these people, who believe they are doing the right thing, fall into the trap that their culture has set them in. After we left the temple, we went to a restaurant and the Haitians made us a delicious meal. The food has been awesome so far (cinnamon buns for breakfast) but that will change when the groups arrive.

Tomorrow, we will be traveling to Port de Paix, Beauchamp, and Salines Mayette (the big orphanage). It will be an extremely long and tiring day but the people out there are awesome.
