Hopes and dreams

(With her permission, I share her story.)

Meet Natacha. She is a mother to 3 beautiful children and loves them with her whole heart. She was married but he decided he didn't want to be with her, so he left. Natacha didn't know how to provide for her children so she turned to the brothel. She didn't want to but felt it was her only option. Over the past few months, I've gotten to spend time with her in the jewelry program. She's an obvious leader. But not the loud, vocal kind. Her actions scream louder than any of the other girls can yell. She is loved and respected by her peers. As we talked yesterday, I asked what her hopes and dreams were.  Her dream is to give her kids the best life she can. She longs to be able to pay for their schooling and provide their basic needs. She wants to provide for them in a manner that's not embarrassing for them. When I asked Natacha her dream job, she said one that honors God and makes her children proud.  As I listened to her talk, I couldn't help but think of the passage in Esther. "And how do you not know you weren't brought here for such a time as this?"  Her hopes and dreams could transform her children's lives and no doubt, the lives of the women around her. I know that she was placed right here, right now because of how big her heart is and the way God created her.

She is clothed with strength and dignity, and laughs without fear of the future.
When she speaks, her words are wise and she gives instruction with kindness.
(Proverbs 31)
