First Mole Group

The group arrived late Friday night after quite a bus ride here. We went exploring some of the forts and spent some time with the orphanage kids. Yesterday, we took a few of the orphanage kids to the beach. Naomi was so excited to swim, she loved it. Neiderson didn't really like being in the water but he loved the beach.

This morning, Morgan and I taught children's church. We told the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego. I love that story because it proves God's faithfulness. My favorite part of that story is when they said our God will save, BUT even if he doesn't, we will still serve him. Man, I pray that my faith becomes like that. Even in the uncertainty, that I would continue to serve him. The kids sang tons of songs, some even performed solos for us.  This afternoon, I went with a group to the outskirts of town. We hiked up this path and found four kids. They were coming down the mountain from working all day. The oldest was 14 years old. They were working on making charcoal with their parents. The 11 year old boy's shirt was too short and his stomach was showing. You could see scars and marks of beatings. The group asked if they wanted to come to the sports camp for the next four days. They said they wanted to but they had to help their parents. If they didn't do their work, they would get in trouble. The interpreter said that likely meant a beating.

Abuse is something that's a huge issue in the Mole. The Mole staff is trying to kick start an education program against it. Kids are physically and sexually abused and it's not really reported. Next to Jody's house, there is 2 slave girls. Today, one of them passed us several times. We greeted her, but each time she kept her head down and didn't acknowledge us. I'm praying that somehow she would come to know that she is worth it, she has value, she can hold her head up. If only she could find her beauty and worth in Christ, in a love that's unfailing.
