Hut to Hut

The group's last day, I took some of the people to do hut to hut. We can upon this hut and a little girl was calling my name. We went up to the hut and it was a girl from the nutrition program. A woman came out and we talked. She said she was a Christian but hadn't come to church because of the lack of right clothing. Clothing is a huge issue here. We discussed how Jesus didn't have the finest clothing and He didn't care what you wore to church. She was so excited to hear that. She just kept saying how happy she was and that we would see her on Sunday. I'm excited to see if she is there tomorrow. The next hut was 14 kids and their mom. She was looking for work but couldn't find any and had no food. We just prayed for her and for God's provision. They pointed us in the direction of a voodoo home so we headed for it. We were so excited to get there and talk to them but we could never find the house. We heard this loud singing so we followed it. The singing continued to grow louder and louder. This older lady waved for us to come over, so we did. We followed her to the back of the house, which was all boarded up. I normally would be worried but our translator was singing along so I figured it couldn't be too dangerous. We walked through the back door and found all these people singing and dancing. The more I looked, the more people I recognized. It was a bunch of mission workers and church members having this crazy worship service. I've never seen anything so intense. They invited us to join so we stayed for a while, a much different plan than a witch doctor's house.

That afternoon, we went to my friend's house. Her mom is a huge witch doctor so she asked us if we wanted to go meet with her mom. We got there and the sister went to get the mom, who then was suddenly gone. She never showed, so we spoke with the sisters, who both practice voodoo. My friend had said only crazy people become voodoo, they are possessed. Her sisters listened but one got up and left. The other asked questions and we had a decent conversation. She denied all voodoo but admitted she didn't believe in our God. We asked to pray and she requested that we pray she would come to know our God, not something to pray unless you mean it. I know God's got huge plans for that family because my friend is the biggest giver I have ever met. She is constantly giving and never taking, always serving.

Today we traveled to the waterfall. It's super hot outside but the water was so refreshing. We got to spend time with some of the boys from town in a more close and intentional way. We hiked back and bought all the boys sa pi bons (like freezer pops) since there was only about 6 of them. In the afternoon, we visited the jail. The prisoners asked us if we would continue to come everyday. We said we would come when we can, but they have their hearings on Monday - hoping they are released. One boy said he was in for fighting his cousin over a girl.
