A Home for Fritzson

If you've been reading this summer, you probably have seen where a young boy named Fritzson captured the hearts of several of us interns. We have been praying for weeks that God would provide for him. He is 12 years old, homeless, starving, and parentless. His gentle and loving demeanor really made us fall in love with him. He never asked us for anything but kept trusting that God would provide through the mission. We talked to all the Haitians and tried to get him in every program possible, but the door just kept being shut. We were so frustrated by the inability to find a fit for him. Fritzson is too old to be moved out to the orphanage, but doesn't have a home to be put into the school and feeding program. We prayed, cried, and got frustrated with God. Magdala recognized the urgency of this situation and offered to discuss the option of him moving in with her and her family. She pretty much already runs a mini orphanage out of her house. Yesterday my group was loading up the truck to go to La Baie. As I was walking downstairs to get on the truck, Heather yelled for me to go get Fritzson. I got him from outside and then we went to meet with her. She told him to grab his belongings because he was going to a new home. He looked at her and said this is all I have. So we gathered some clothes from the depot and some toiletries that were left by groups. He was going to live with the Haitian staff out there. He was so excited and we realized he didn't have shoes. I had an old pair I was going to leave anyways and they looked like they would fit him perfectly. We got out there and he jumped right in, swimming and taking it all in. When Hannah and I got on the truck to leave, he asked if he was coming back with us. He started crying so hard when we said no, this is your new home. He was absolutely scared to death and I don't blame him. As excited as we were for him to have a home, it was hard to see him go. We balled like babies but it's a comfort to know he has plenty of food, a safe home, and potential for a great future.

  1. Wow, what a bittersweet moment! I am glad you were there to comfort and encourage him during the transition. That would have been difficult, I am sure.
