Ice Cream!

It's been a quiet few days without groups on campus. The first day, we had to clean up the whole campus and then were free to do whatever. Hannah and I went down to the jail and spent some time with them. There was a lady there who was two months pregnant and had gotten jumped by six women. She was the one who winded up in jail. She was so weak that she couldn't even stand up to use the bathroom. Her symptoms sounded like cholera on top of being pregnant. We pleaded with the guard to just bring her to the mission to get treated. An hour later, she was there and had gotten medicine. She told us she had been headed down a rough path, but realized she needed to get back to Jesus. She referred to herself as a prodigal child. There were two men who have been there the past few days. They have been so stinking excited just to have us pray. It's been really refreshing. Yesterday, we went back to visit them and pray. The UN was there and they were very confused as to why we came every day. There was an American guy and he said he was only here for the money. That was like a shot to the heart for all of us, even our Haitians. We are here because we love it, not because someone has to pay us lots of money. One of our Haitians said the UN stood for United Nothing - many people aren't fans of them. In the afternoon, we went on our ice cream hunt. We showed up at the bakery and they said they didn't have the supplies, so we stopped at another place. As we were driving away, our driver noticed this guy with a hand rigged ice cream machine walking down the street. It was amazing, an ice cream truck in Haiti?! It was cherry flavored and the best five Haitian dollars I have ever spent. There were about 30 of us total since we brought all the little kids and some of the translators. That guy was so excited to have so much business in 30 minutes. Today, we got to travel to La Baie. We went to the secret beach that has caves surrounding it and people got to snorkel and spear gun. They caught our lunch for us. The next group arrives tomorrow.
