Unexpected Blessings

Today, Katelyn and I  went to hang out with the nutrition program kids. Often times, groups just brush these kids off because there are hundreds and they are everywhere. We just sat down, talked, played hand clapping games, and just enjoyed being with them. They were truly a blast to spend time with. The kids had us laughing and were telling jokes and for a short time, it was easy to forget that they were obviously starving, sick, or simply struggling in life. We literally spent the entire day down there. I was one of those people who just pushed those kids to the side but I know that now I will definitely make it a big deal to get groups to hang out with them. All these kids want is to be loved, held, and hung out with. Nothing fancy.

It was market day, which happens one of the last days every group is here. We bring in local vendors to sell souvenoirs. Melonnie has been doing a ministry at the big jail in Port de Paix so I helped sell the stuff her prisoners had made. They made jewelry and wallets out of candy wrappers and hopefully by next market, their paintings will be ready to sell. All the money goes back to them so it's a neat experience.

We found out that one of the cook's father died. She just looks so sad and is really struggling. She has been such a blessing to all of us, how could we not give back to her. She said she was really upset because she knew her family couldn't afford to bury her father properly. We went and found out what a coffin cost-- 1000 goudes( or $125 American). Us interns all pitched in and gave Junior (the Haitian campus director) the money. He exchanged to Haitian and then just quietly handed it to her. She has no idea who, how, why she got that money. But it was so cool to know that we could give back to her what she has been pouring into us. She will never know that we gave her that money, and that's the way it should be--God should be given all the thanks-- we are just merely instruments through which he could provide for her. (Chester Christian people, that money came from you--so you too were instruments in blessing this awesome Godly woman).
